Crescent Jupiter
This unique crescent view of the planet Jupiter was captured by NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft. Voyager was looking back at the giant planet nearly three weeks after its closest approach in March of 1979. The famous great red spot can be see near the planet's edge just to the right of center. Three separate black and white images were taken and then combined to create this color image. At the time this picture was taken, Voyager 1 was nearly 17 million miles (30 million kilometers) from the planet.
