Planet Mercury
This is one of the most current and complete images ever obtained of the planet Mercury. It was obtained by NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft as it passed by the planet January 14, 2008. The image shows the cratered and desolate surface of Mercury that strongly resembles the surface of Earth's moon. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and its surface temperature can reach over 800° F (427° C) during the day.
