Sun in Ultraviolet Light
This image of the Sun shows gas at a temperature of 1,500,000°C gas in the star's thin, outer atmosphere, or corona. The image was taken by the Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) spacecraft. Images obtained with ultraviolet wavelengths of light show many subtle details that are not detectable in visible light images.
