Layered Rocks on Mars
This image from the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity shows layered rocks in a ledge named "Payson" on the edge of Erebus Crater on Mars. The layers on these rocks resembles that of sedimentary rocks on Earth. Sedimentary rocks are formed under water, and scientists believe this to be strong evidence that liquid water once existed on Mars.
