Royal Blue Neptune
This image of the planet Neptune was taken by Voyager 2 in 1989. After seeing the nearly featureless images of Uranus a few years earlier, astronomers were surprised to find an abundance of cloud features on Neptune. The most prominent feature was the giant blue spot, which disappeared a few years later. Other discoveries included bright white, fast-moving clouds in the planet's upper atmosphere.
