Red Garibaldi
The garibaldi (Hypsypops rubicundus) is well known for its bright orange color. The name is a reference to the Italian military and political figure Giuseppe Garibaldi, whose followers often wore a characteristic red shirt. This fish is found in the Pacific Ocean off the western coast of California where it hunts for invertebrates among the rocks of the kelp forests. The garibaldi is a member of the damselfish family. It grows to a size of up to 14 inches (36 centimeters) in length.
