This image of a blue starfish, also known as a sea star, was captured by NOAA photographers in the waters off the coast of Fiji. Also known as a Blue Linckia Sea Star, it is found throughout the waters of the Pacific and Indian oceans. Sea stars are unique in the animal world because of their regenerative powers. If the lose an arm, it will grow back. In some species of sea star, a lost arm can actually grow into another complete starfish. The Blue Linckia is popular with aquarium hobbyists due to its bright color.
