Mountains of Creation
This image of shows a star forming region in the constellation Cassiopeia known as the "Mountains of Creation". The composite picture combines an infrared image taken by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope with a visible-light image. The infrared image reveals towering pillars of dust glowing with the light of young stars (white/yellow). The added detail in the Spitzer image reveals a dynamic region in the process of evolving and creating new stars. The infrared light can travel through dust, revealing hidden details that would be blocked in a visible light image.
