The Great Red Spot
This close-up image of the planet Jupiter was taken by NASA's Voyager 2 spacecraft. It clearly shows the famous great red spot, which is a gigantic cyclonic storm system that has been raginf for over 300 years. A smaller white spot above is also thougth to be a storm. The amazing colors in Jupiter's clouds are formed when as yet unknown material is churned up by the violent winds that exceed 300 miles per hour (482 km per hour).
