Mars, the Red Planet
This global snapshot of Mars was taken by the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft. Images from 12 orbits were combined to produce the image. It is one of the best global views of the red planet ever obtained. Bluish-white water ice clouds can be seen hanging above the Tharsis volcanoes near the center of the image. The North polar ice cap can be seen at the top of the image.
