Giant Cabbage Coral
This image of a large cabbage coral (Turbinaria reniformis) was captured by photographers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Known also as yellow scroll coral, this species is native to the Indo-Pacific Ocean. It can be found in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean, northern Australia, southern Japan, and the South China Sea. The coral forms horizontal plates or shallow chalices, sometimes forming tiers that resemble a cabbage. It is usually yellow-green in color.
