Fish-Eating Anemone
This sea anemone (Urticina piscivora) is known as a fish-eating anemone. This Pacific Ocean species is found all along the west coast of North America from Alaska all the way down to southern California. This is a common species on the rocky bottoms of the California kelp forests. As its name suggests, this anemone is capable of capturing and consuming small fish and shrimp. However, one fish species known as the painted greenling, (Oxylebius pictus) has been observed living unharmed among the anemone's stinging tentacles.
