This beautiful creature is known as a soft coral. It is actually a colony of small animals connected to each other by living tissues. Unlike many of their close relatives on the reef, soft corals do not contain a hard calcium skeleton and do not contribute to the building of the reef. Soft corals are found in a wide range of colors and can be seen in most of the world's oceans.
