Clouds of Venus
This beautiful image of Venus was created from a mosaic of three images acquired by the Mariner 10 spacecraft in 1974. It clearly shows the thick cloud layers that shroud the planet's surface at all times. The thick atmosphere on Venus keeps the planet's surface extremely warm by trapping infrared radiation in what is know as the greenhouse effect.
